Garden Sketch Session

Find a local forest trail or wooded park. Set an intention to walk slowly—not for exercise, but to actually notice the environment around you.

Practice 'forest bathing': stop every so often to touch bark, smell the air, listen to birds. Talk quietly or not at all, just exist together in the space.

Find a spot to sit—a log, a clearing, a bench. Close your eyes for one minute together and just listen to the forest. Then discuss what you heard.

Drive to a nearby forest trail and start walking slowly—much slower than usual. Practice the Japanese art of shinrin-yoku by engaging all five senses.

Take turns guiding each other through sensory exercises: touch bark, smell moss, listen to birdsong. Walk in comfortable silence for stretches.

Find a peaceful spot to sit together and just breathe. Share one thing you noticed about nature and one thing you noticed about each other.

Research a moderate hiking trail that leads to a waterfall, packing water, snacks, and a small speaker for later. Start your hike in the morning to beat crowds and heat, walking at a leisurely pace.

When you reach the waterfall, find a spot to sit and simply listen to the water for 10 minutes without talking. Play a guided meditation or calming music through your speaker and breathe together.

Share one thing you're each grateful for and one thing you're ready to let go of, symbolically leaving it at the waterfall. Take photos but try to be present more than you document.

Pick a historic neighborhood and grab simple sketch supplies from a local art store. Set a goal to document three buildings that catch your eye.

Take turns choosing buildings to sketch, even if you're terrible at it. Share what details you notice—cornices, doorways, patterns—and why they appeal to you.

Find a café with a view and compare your sketches over drinks. Research the history of your favorite building on your phone together.
